Corporate Reset, Make More Mistakes: Session Recap
In March 2013, Bonnie Cain-Wood attended a session on organizational transitions. Her notes, takeaways and follow up questions are below.
Session Brief: Companies continually unleash new products and services, looking to move into new markets and evolve their brand with existing and new audiences. For large corporations this can be overwhelming & complex, how do you become agile enough to pivot at the right time, toward the right areas and with the right people?
Dan Schulman shared his approach to influencing change within a well-established incumbent and lessons learned including the minefields “intrapreneurs” looking to make a drastic change can expect to encounter.
Takeaways:
• You can't define the world as old versus new. It sets up conflict and resistance.
• You overestimate how much change will happen in the next few years. You underestimate how much change will happen in the next 10 years.
Library Applications:
• In this time of transition, are we creating a world of old versus new? What can we do to minimize the conflict and resistance this creates?
